Red Oak veneer is harvested from the Northeastern United States and Southeastern Canada. It has a light to red heartwood commonly met by a red cast accompanied by a nearly white to light brown sapwood that often times fails to be distinguished from the heartwood. The grain and texture of Red Oak tends to be straight grain with a coarse and uneven texture. Although many may sight the Rot resistance present in cousins of Red Oak such as White Oak, such a level of resistance simply isn't present. Red Oak has almost no resistance at all to decay or insects.
